Why, oh, why do they DO this to me? Over and over again they're taking my precious childhood memories and vamping them up! First it was Strawberry Shortcake, and now, it's Rainbow Brite! What's next?? Holly Hobby in a tube top?
I know exactly how you feel. They wrecked Littlest Pet Shops too. I'm even disappointed in the way they have updated Sylvanian Families, even though they are still pretty close to the old ones. :) What is your favorite toy? Mine was always Sylvanian Families, Maple Town (Maple Town Story, similar to Sylvanian Families), and a knock off called Forest Families. I still have ALL of the ones I had as a kid (except one baby mouse that got lost, which still makes me mad!), and I still buy more ... :p
The 'modernization' of toy lines scares me because in many cases it's nothing more than (IMHO) attempting to sexualize the toys. Considering the market these toys are aimed at, sexualizing them seems to be a pretty bad thing. Even Dora the Explorer has been updated the same way.

ReplyDeleteWhat are they doing?
ReplyDeleteThat's Rainbow Brite's cousin, Rainbow Bratz. What's next - Gold Bug in pasties?
