This morning on the radio I heard that Music Theatre of Wichita is presenting Les Miserables this weekend. They actually added four more performances, so there were still tickets available. I'm now the proud owner of 2 really decent tickets to Saturday night's performance! I'm pretty excited! I've never seen Les Miz before, but I have read the book. I just love when things like this happen at the last moment. It's a fun little happy for the week!

Call me silly, but...
Lil' Kay will be going to kindergarten in a couple of weeks, and it's killing me! I work full-time outside the home, so he goes to daycare every day. I really thought that this fact would immunize me against the weepy "oh my baby is going to kindergarten" sydrome, but I was wrong. Turns out, it isn't about missing your little one when they no longer spend the day with you, it's all about them growing up. Going to school is such a huge milestone! I keep saying that it's just a downhill slide to high school graduation after this.
Friday is the day that I will go and enroll him. I'm not looking forward to it. In fact, I'm totally scared! The first day of school is sneaking up on me, and I feel totally unprepared! He's going to be riding a bus! What if he doesn't get on the bus? What if there are mean kids? What if he's the mean kid? What if he doesn't make friends? What if he can't sit still? What if he won't follow directions? Seriously. I'm going crazy! I should be a total quivering mass of nerves by the time the first week of school has come and gone.

New Displays
Call me a dork, but office supply and store display catalogs excite me! I love flipping through them. I don't really order much, but I love the idea of all those little pieces of metal and paper and whatnot.
In preparation for our craft shows this fall, Jessica and I decided to revamp our booth. That means I got to flip through store display catalogs with purpose! We're retiring our trusty old pegboards. They've served us very well, but they are big and bulky and heavy. Not much fun to load up and set up. Instead, we're opting for a couple of metal racks to hang my purses and Jessica's baby blankets from. We'll hang the purses using clip hangers and the blankets using skirt hangers. We also got a cute little spinner rack to hang hair accessories on. This should give us room for more table space in our booths this fall.
We ordered everything from Robert H. Ham. Now, I'm just sitting back and waiting for the big fun box to arrive on my doorstep! Exciting stuff, huh?

Sew-A-Thon
My sister Jessica is the person that I do all my craft shows with. She is my partner in our other Etsy shop She Made It! A few weeks ago, we found out that we were accepted as exhibitors in the premier craft show in Kansas. This is the one that people plan their lives around, so they can be sure to be there! It's the Hillsboro Arts and Crafts Fair in Hillsboro, KS on September 20. The fair takes over this small Kansas town, and it is totally worth visiting. We actually missed the application deadline, but the folks at the fair encouraged us to apply anyway! We did and got in! So, so exciting!
We are absolutely terrified that we won't have enough stock for this size of craft show. So, tomorrow night, I'm dragging my sewing machine over to Jess's house. We're going to throw some hotdogs at our kids, stay up all night and sew, sew, sew! Last night, I worked on getting a bunch of bags cut out, so I can just concentrate on sewing when I get there. Hopefully, we won't spend more time hanging out and chasing the kids than we do sewing! LOL!

Antiques Roadshow
So, I've been MIA for a while now! Just busy, busy, busy! Busy at my day job, busy getting ready for vacation, busy going on vacation, and I've even been doing some sewing!
This past Saturday, Mr. Kay and I got to attend the Antiques Roadshow in Wichita, KS. This is something I have wanted to do for a really long time, so I was very excited. My stomach was getting all butterfly-y, and Mr. Kay was laughing at me. It was a neat experience. Let me just say that if you are not an Antiques Roadshow fan, you probably won't have fun, unless you have a really stellar item. Basically, it was standing in line for hours! But, I had a great time. I got to gawk at other people's treasures, see some of the Roadshow celebrities up close, be on the set, talk to other people. It was fun! We got to watch people have their segments taped and have a few of our items appraised.
So, what did we take? I took a tiny wooden bowl that was brought over from the old country by my great grandmother when she was four years old in 1874. They took a train from somewhere in Southern Russia to Hamburg Germany. Somewhere along that trip, her parents bought her this little bowl to take with her on the trip as a toy. It was worth about $60-80.
I also brought along a pair of kissing bobblehead dolls that my mom had when she was a little girl. They were a cowboy and cowgirl. The appraiser seemed pleased that we had the pair instead of just one or the other. He called them "nodders" and said they were worth $50-75 for the pair.
Mr. Kay took along a World War II helmet that he bought on ebay for $15. The appraiser was stumped. He said the liner was authentic, but couldn't place the helmet itself. Value - about $100.
He also took along a little motorcycle policeman lead toy. Worth about $20.
So, nothing to base our retirement on, and you won't be seeing us on T.V. next year, but it is a definitely an experience that I'm glad I had. I was surprised at how small the set actually is! Wish I had pictures for you! I forgot the camera, and you're not allowed to take pictures on the set anyway.
