Every collector has a handful of items that they covet. The kind of thing that they would love to add to their collection. Most of the time, those items seem kind of unattainable, especially if you're the kind of collector who doesn't have the money to just go out and buy what you want at any price.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
But, sometimes, you get lucky....</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://farm6.staticflickr.com/5112/14182130699_76bdf52999_b.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="268" src="https://farm6.staticflickr.com/5112/14182130699_76bdf52999_b.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
The kids had Bible School a couple weeks ago. It was held about 20 minutes from our house for two hours for four days. I didn't want to drop them off, drive home and drive back every night, so I found ways to amuse myself. The last night of Bible School, there was an auction in town. A small auction. And, of course, it fell on the one night where I had to go back to Bible School early to watch the kids' program. But, I still had an hour to spend. I got there about an hour and a half in to the auction. They were just getting started on a trailer full of household items. I scoped it out and found an entire box full of Pyrex and Fire King bowls. The best was a PAIR of these pink striped Pyrex mixing bowls. I have been wanting this bowl for a while, but I wasn't seeing them "in the wild", and I wasn't willing to pay the shipping on eBay. I ended up getting the entire box for less than $45. It had three out of four of the Pyrex primary colored mixing bowls, these two pink striped bowls, a pink banded Fire King bowl and a white painted fruit Fire King bowl! That's a lotta bowls for the price!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://farm3.staticflickr.com/2932/14345658296_ac0d9627da_b.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="211" src="https://farm3.staticflickr.com/2932/14345658296_ac0d9627da_b.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://farm6.staticflickr.com/5474/14365427731_a99446fb0c_b.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="251" src="https://farm6.staticflickr.com/5474/14365427731_a99446fb0c_b.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
So, I was thinking had found my prize for the night. Until I saw them hold up this Fire King tulips range set. This is a true holy grail kind of item. This set sells for about $200. Apparently, I was the only person there that night, who recognized their value, because I paid less than $40. I was giddy!!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<a href="https://farm4.staticflickr.com/3894/14367865534_f7d0a32d15_b.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://farm4.staticflickr.com/3894/14367865534_f7d0a32d15_b.jpg" width="341" /></a><a href="https://farm4.staticflickr.com/3926/14367274542_db7bd0be8d_b.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="236" src="https://farm4.staticflickr.com/3926/14367274542_db7bd0be8d_b.jpg" width="400" /></a><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Apparently, I've been a very good girl this year, because this past Saturday, Roger and I were visiting an estate sale on our block and I saw this Singer Featherweight machine sitting on the floor. I took a look at the price, shut that box and declared, "MINE!" These little beauties sell for at least $300. I paid $75. Now, THAT is a true holy grail moment!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
All three of these lovelies are staying in my personal collection, because frankly, they are things I love, and I'll never get that kind of deal again.</div>

You went to a studio, and they used a can of hairspray and a make up trowel to make you glamorous so they could take some delightfully awkward pictures of you.<br />
<br />
Yeah. Here's mine circa 1994:<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgs2yFGI5g37m6PX6Ng6r8dsBiotrI2yH8j138Iw44778Ax4EN-cE460Mu3s9gDjGaQmq1rUljgVEkjUA_IK799wU2qLph7iR82tDXZmLnlM1gltUSLiJdJjMXMXucfaN9sNeZaMoshPf8/s1600/EK4.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgs2yFGI5g37m6PX6Ng6r8dsBiotrI2yH8j138Iw44778Ax4EN-cE460Mu3s9gDjGaQmq1rUljgVEkjUA_IK799wU2qLph7iR82tDXZmLnlM1gltUSLiJdJjMXMXucfaN9sNeZaMoshPf8/s1600/EK4.jpg" height="400" width="282" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Try not to laugh.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
So, fast forward 20 years. I'm driving home from work and I see a sign for a photography studio specializing in pin-up style photography. I love pin-up artwork. It's cute. It's glamorous. It's fun and sexy. I do a little Facebook research and discover that Aleycia from <a href="http://www.eyekandypinup.com/" target="_blank">Eye Kandy Pin Up Photography</a> has just moved her studio into town.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Roger turned 40 years old last month and our 16th wedding anniversary is this Friday. Those seemed like good excuses to have some fun photos taken of myself!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I knew I wanted to feature the bicycle that Roger built for me. And, I love how they turned out. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgnlEbAujNoiCC5z-qORuMH3GjQ6_y0lS7kr_EgkO3kCDt71hv0yAzQzWIYP_ZLuu2gsq-XFaRFH1IaZGLdy-oXssJwfZd0euarmj_y7da4s5qIYMYA_aLL48uknZnGplPr83mUgFZVD2A/s1600/EK1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgnlEbAujNoiCC5z-qORuMH3GjQ6_y0lS7kr_EgkO3kCDt71hv0yAzQzWIYP_ZLuu2gsq-XFaRFH1IaZGLdy-oXssJwfZd0euarmj_y7da4s5qIYMYA_aLL48uknZnGplPr83mUgFZVD2A/s1600/EK1.jpg" height="285" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Aleycia did my hair and make up, and she had a room full of outfits to choose from. Look at my hair! That hair made me want to weep. It was so beautiful. When she said, "What about victory rolls?" I nearly jumped out of the chair. "Oh, yes, please! I've always wanted that!"</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
The worst part of the day was having to take my hair down before Roger got home. This was all a big secret surprise, remember?</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
There is also a set of photos from this day that are for Roger's eyes only. (Okay, a few of my girlfriends have seen them.) Nothing that would disqualify me from the Miss America pageant, but you know, the interwebs don't need to know <i>everything</i> about me!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh61FsD05InNgLTUaPE0Irmlf5VpA75NMeoUawLRTEEHzdqOAs4bjPoJChCBMrZFa5MbmEeZS9JcyThHMEguqnJX21LZWC9epIzb2kbRAMD66gzfIyvNDOjruWklSynSGtR56lUhnk-bjE/s1600/EK2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh61FsD05InNgLTUaPE0Irmlf5VpA75NMeoUawLRTEEHzdqOAs4bjPoJChCBMrZFa5MbmEeZS9JcyThHMEguqnJX21LZWC9epIzb2kbRAMD66gzfIyvNDOjruWklSynSGtR56lUhnk-bjE/s1600/EK2.jpg" height="400" width="285" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Roger was definitely surprised and pleased with his birthday gift. I think he was mostly impressed that I hauled that monster bike out of the house, into the van, out of the van, into the van and back into the house all by myself!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
If you get the chance to do something like this, go for it! It's fun! It makes you believe in how beautiful you are. And it's definitely a better kind of "glamour shot".</div>

The wind broke our tent about halfway through the show, so we had to walk it out and take it down. While people were still shopping!! Then I spent the afternoon getting a sunburn on my arms. The market organizer, Nicole, took some beautiful pictures of our merchandise (and Roger) that I wanted to share with you!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
A basket full of How & Why books. These have such great illustrations!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEif-H_hN6I5cngvR1fDIv5yNTkhRuQkXg6v3NynXV5QArHpCETphMkfCoLUcmKEMBsHvKIziUXRFAClkvub_0IatQKRxtwiRVQJr51u0Svzj4zjm44fY0KhkZv48Sk0LakUIiHUj4AQQGE/s1600/lambs.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEif-H_hN6I5cngvR1fDIv5yNTkhRuQkXg6v3NynXV5QArHpCETphMkfCoLUcmKEMBsHvKIziUXRFAClkvub_0IatQKRxtwiRVQJr51u0Svzj4zjm44fY0KhkZv48Sk0LakUIiHUj4AQQGE/s1600/lambs.jpg" height="266" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
Rubber squeaky lambs. And, if that Rummy board behind them does not sell soon, I am keeping it!! I've had it for years and it gets picked up a hundred times at every show, but no one takes it home. Makes me sad.<br />
<br />

<br />
Minnow buckets, tackle boxes and a chicken mail sorter. The tackle boxes sold to our lovely neighbors.<br />

<br />
There's Roger! Looking "cool" and keeping our tent on the ground. Frankly, things were much less stressful after we took that thing down!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
We took our beautiful surrey to the show, knowing that it would be a great eye catcher! It sold within the first hour, but hung out at the booth all day. At one point, I looked up to find that three little girls were taking it for a joy ride! The adorable little drivers were quickly apprehended. :)<br />
<br />
All in all, a very fun day! Can't wait for the fall market!BeckyKayhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12403738028988308558noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6575722553910411741.post-17344016630830660302014-04-11T11:32:00.000-05:002014-04-11T11:32:02.193-05:00New stuff for the trailerI originally intended to create a space for the kids in my trailer, because they go nuts if they can't access me at any time of the day. I put in a cute little vintage school desk for them to use. However, after using the trailer for a few months, I've found that they mostly just want to hang out in the reading nook. And, I want a comfy chair to sit in. So, I picked this up the other day at an auction for $3.00.<div>
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://scontent-b-dfw.xx.fbcdn.net/hphotos-prn1/t1.0-9/10252014_10152454281739155_5811652507696834825_n.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://scontent-b-dfw.xx.fbcdn.net/hphotos-prn1/t1.0-9/10252014_10152454281739155_5811652507696834825_n.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
That's right, three dollars. There is no better place to buy cheap chairs than at an auction. Great vintage vibe, good neutral color, quality upholstery. It's comfy, and I can throw my leg over the arm of it when I'm reading!</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Pretty soon, I'll never need to leave the trailer!</div>

<br />
I bought an broken orange laundry basket full of these Edward Mobley rubber squeak toys at an auction on Saturday. When I first saw these, I thought they were just ceramic figures. When I inspected them more closely, I completely fell in love. This was THE item to get.<br />
<br />
They're dated 1960-1963. All four squeak and the three larger animals all have heads that rotate. The puppy and large lamb both have "sleep eyes" that close when they're tilted back. Unfortunately, Lambie's eyelashes have been a bit damaged, but she's still very sweet.<br />
<br />
The puppy and kitty are going to go live in my trailer for now. I fall further in love with them every time I look at them. That puppy's cocked ear just slays me!<br />
<br />
This is my "ugly lamp" purchase of the day.<br />

It's a floor lamp that stands about five feet tall, I think. I love those hanging red globes! I really think this will be an easy sell. It's just so, so....SOMETHING! And if it doesn't sell? I'll find a place for it myself!<br />

I'm sure you think I've dropped off the planet. Or that I've barricaded myself in the trailer and I'm never coming out.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://farm3.staticflickr.com/2887/13591280834_339df7178c_b.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://farm3.staticflickr.com/2887/13591280834_339df7178c_b.jpg" width="370" /></a></div>
<br />
I've been making stuff. I made this for the trailer. You can find the pattern <a href="http://attic24.typepad.com/weblog/blooming-flower-cushion.html" target="_blank">here</a>. Not really made in the trailer, but definitely for the trailer. It's a fun pattern. A bit challenging because a lot of the work is done behind the previous round, but it goes pretty fast. And I always find it fun to change colors a lot. It keeps me from getting bored.<br />
<br />
The trailer is absolutely divine. Sometimes, I just stand in there and think, "I cannot believe this is mine." I am able to actually accomplish and finish things. There are no distractions in the trailer. (Unless the kids join me.) No computer, no food (usually), just my stuff. And, everything I need is right there. I'm not hunting all over the house for what I need.<br />
<br />
So far, I have done scrapbook pages, made a mini album for a baby shower, made a doll's dress, made Sally's Easter dress, and added cuffs to a vintage coat. All in my own happy space.BeckyKayhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12403738028988308558noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6575722553910411741.post-88897514908512711972014-01-27T14:36:00.001-06:002014-01-27T16:13:34.154-06:00The Big Reveal!This is it. The big trailer reveal. It's done. Sort of. Mostly. Let's face it, it will never be done, done. There are still windows to be replaced. The outside is not fully polished. I've got lots more decorating to do. We want to build a deck around it. But, it's workable. It's cute. I've even done a couple of projects in there!<br />
<br />

So, a whole bunch of before and after pictures for your viewing pleasure. And, as a side note, it took pretty much one year to get to this point.<br />

So, there it is! I can't believe it is mine. I really can't. The other day I was standing in there, cutting the fabric for my curtains and I thought to myself, "This is the nicest thing anyone has ever done for me." Truly.<br />

On New Year's Day, we spent the afternoon in the trailer cleaning and working on details. After all the sanding Roger had to do on the table, that end of the trailer was covered in a not so thin layer of sawdust. I vacuumed, wiped and wiped again. I even got down on the floor to clean up all the dirt and marks from the construction phase. (And we promptly messed it up again by tracking in snow.)</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

We added these gorgeous brackets to the doorway of the reading nook. These lovelies were in a box of miscellaneous brackets that I bought at an estate sale. Roger spray painted them red, and I love the little bit of color they add to the doorway.</div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Did I mention it was snowing when we did this? The kind of snow that blows straight in your face, like tiny pieces of glass. But, it's happening! I'm starting to move stuff in! The only "construction" related project that needs to be finished is putting doors on the reading nook storage area. And those doors are built, primed and partially painted. Roger said he'll be able to install them tomorrow. Granted, there are still windows to be replaced, but that's nothing that will keep me from moving in and using my craft space.</div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Tonight, I took my yarn stash out to the closet. I love, love, love the way this looks. I used four hanging shoe organizers, and they fit perfectly in the closet. At first, I was a little worried that I wouldn't be able to fit more than one skein in each slot. But, then I realized that yarn is smooshy! I can cram at least two full standard sized skeins in each one. I think I'm going to try something similar with my fabric stash.</div>

I finished the rest of them last night, and Roger installed them today. The handles and pulls are all from Ikea. Unfortunately, we didn't buy enough when we were there in October, so we are three handles short. And, Ikea doesn't sell them online. And, the Kansas Ikea doesn't open until sometime next year. I'm looking into other sources, but if anyone has three extra red Ikea Satta handles that they'd like to sell, let me know!</div>

There are four doors that go along the very bottom of my cabinets. I found these awesome animal pictures in a Child Craft book from the 70s. I decided they'd make a nice pop of color. These are my doors in various stages of drying. This is how I've spent my New Year's Eve. Yeah, I'm pretty hardcore...</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Tomorrow, I am going to start sorting and packing my craft supplies. It's hard to believe that I am finally to that stage! There is still some touch up painting to do in the trailer, a couple of doors for Roger to build and install, and the broken windows still need replaced, but it is ready for me to dust, sweep and start moving in! So, you know how I'll be starting 2014!</div>

Happy New Year!</div>

Roger took the opportunity to do more work in the craft trailer. I can't believe how incredible it is looking. And the major components are all falling into place!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjLG02mY2K8seN3V18FlmoRVR0HqzKOC45zKOcmXOrtdfPN5RrM2rgpXAz3aeTCQtrljYBXQVDeUGjCXxNIAyXJfRGKemqdvc6cTkxW1a32gpAyTEXseCfQ0-9O4jjKyYcEp9kroui5IBk/s1600/trailer+002.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="266" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjLG02mY2K8seN3V18FlmoRVR0HqzKOC45zKOcmXOrtdfPN5RrM2rgpXAz3aeTCQtrljYBXQVDeUGjCXxNIAyXJfRGKemqdvc6cTkxW1a32gpAyTEXseCfQ0-9O4jjKyYcEp9kroui5IBk/s400/trailer+002.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
Check out these cabinets! The ones at the far end will be drawers. The white ones will be open and the bottom of the nearer cabinet will be doors.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjKW8cs20EDBOrdcJQBF_YJFQR8WmLfAVAVii8Y42kLCs1nUAR7wtdJDeFc20Oe6lfC-a-sbEz4qA5k42P7clFGun725PxUbgtgZ3l1Hvzb0dtL4dGDxct4IL20iFspwDBYU1VUbOfPSJg/s1600/trailer+004.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="266" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjKW8cs20EDBOrdcJQBF_YJFQR8WmLfAVAVii8Y42kLCs1nUAR7wtdJDeFc20Oe6lfC-a-sbEz4qA5k42P7clFGun725PxUbgtgZ3l1Hvzb0dtL4dGDxct4IL20iFspwDBYU1VUbOfPSJg/s400/trailer+004.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
We've collected old refrigerator drawers to fill the top spot in the white cupboards. This end is also intended to be used as a fabric cutting area. (I'm sure I'll manage to cover it with all kinds of stuff when I'm not cutting fabric!)<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhuPFeb0SgTSzynYRW6m6AknQtj-LmXi5ADIco72uF9XiV_1MNSw2gHWpJdtRgm8gh4IgYvtd9kLTcWk0F3Wq0XQ5Imwu-H6N5t2wZn2ukl1lZgnFCkLcCfmcQGBLQeCS4IBaNCJ2W2gX4/s1600/trailer+003.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhuPFeb0SgTSzynYRW6m6AknQtj-LmXi5ADIco72uF9XiV_1MNSw2gHWpJdtRgm8gh4IgYvtd9kLTcWk0F3Wq0XQ5Imwu-H6N5t2wZn2ukl1lZgnFCkLcCfmcQGBLQeCS4IBaNCJ2W2gX4/s400/trailer+003.JPG" width="266" /></a></div>
<br />
This yellow section will have drawers. The plan is to decoupage the fronts of the drawers so they match the reading nook area. Decoupage is my area of expertise, so I need to get to work on those!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhk-TvTRuYqvzFQ4MmA_Zh4URqVWlC90WeD_6WPF35WZDGO46a7pSJ520uNe2GGPWxpffPxNj4q7gE7coTFeAVJRA2D58tXJb3Yf3dn9ycN184pVpLK3xZurOoqoSESaQnDsTRqenE54eM/s1600/trailer+005.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="266" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhk-TvTRuYqvzFQ4MmA_Zh4URqVWlC90WeD_6WPF35WZDGO46a7pSJ520uNe2GGPWxpffPxNj4q7gE7coTFeAVJRA2D58tXJb3Yf3dn9ycN184pVpLK3xZurOoqoSESaQnDsTRqenE54eM/s400/trailer+005.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
My table is finally up. This is so exciting, because, let's face it, this is where I will be working the most. The table top is pine and will be finished with some kind of varnish or whatever. The drawers on the side were purchased at Michael's. Roger had to cut the table top to fit the curved end of the trailer. (That weird looking leg in the middle is not permanent.)<br />
<br />
So, a fair amount of the work still to be done needs to be done by me! Decoupaging all those drawers and doors will take some time. Roger does still need to hang the closet doors and make doors for the storage area under the reading nook. <br />
<br />
Wouldn't it be amazing if it were done by Christmas? I'm not holding my breath, but it's a nice thought.BeckyKayhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12403738028988308558noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6575722553910411741.post-65941501553813515302013-10-28T21:56:00.003-05:002013-10-28T22:02:25.993-05:00Unique Antique MarketRoger and I spent Sunday in our booth at the <a href="https://www.facebook.com/unique.antique.market" target="_blank">Unique Antique Market</a> in Wichita. So many gorgeous booths and lots of great stuff! Since it was an indoor show, I finally got to wear my vintage-style red dress.<br />

Even I am beginning to see the light at the end of the tunnel. Roger and I both took last week off from work, and Roger spent a fair amount of time out in the trailer. We also took a trip to Menards and found the perfect material for the counter tops.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none; clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiFX_j27NsuVRykiNWVNAR8L6MFiSGVQ4lArtsbhMQukC6X5YKNyggX-jrsiSKYHMB3vzwUIwKUDjjCy4bUU6kyvlnMVtbT8T63YtxB8vaJVE1UISwyavhW5RqDWJVhzLP62IkEhTbuT-E/s1600/pins.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" isa="true" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiFX_j27NsuVRykiNWVNAR8L6MFiSGVQ4lArtsbhMQukC6X5YKNyggX-jrsiSKYHMB3vzwUIwKUDjjCy4bUU6kyvlnMVtbT8T63YtxB8vaJVE1UISwyavhW5RqDWJVhzLP62IkEhTbuT-E/s320/pins.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<div style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none;">
<br /></div>
<div style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none;">
Last night I went looking for the perfect fabric for the curtains. I came across this one on my local quilt shop's website. My thought was that I would go browse the store today, measure tonight and buy tomorrow, but when I got to the store today, I found out that this fabric had already been sent out to their discounted fabric store on the other side of town. I took the fact that it was discounted as a sign that this was definitely the perfect fabric. So, I hightailed it out to the outlet mall and bought all they had - 12 3/4 yards from a 13 yard bolt.</div>
<div style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none;">
<br /></div>
<div style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none;">
I bought this, too. Because who the heck goes to the fabric store and only buys one thing??</div>
<div style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://farm4.staticflickr.com/3833/10444479485_47aba24a6f.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" closure_lm_311950="null" height="320" isa="true" src="http://farm4.staticflickr.com/3833/10444479485_47aba24a6f.jpg" width="298" /></a></div>
<br />
The picture doesn't do justice to how bright and vivid these prints are. I'll probably use them for a pillow. Something that really shows off those cute little dollies.<br />
<div style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none;">
<br /></div>
<div style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none;">
Anyway, we also went down to San Antonio last weekend for a short vacation to SeaWorld. On the way there, we passed an IKEA. Just think! I could pick out my IKEA stuff in person and we wouldn't have to pay shipping. We could just haul it home with us! So, on our way home, we stopped by and had a great time buzzing though the store and picking up just what I wanted. (Our kids hated it. Our son has ranked it number four on his list of most hated stores. Right after Dillons (grocery store), Lowe's and Menard's.)</div>
<div style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none;">
<br /></div>
<div style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none;">
Being there in person with my contractor (Roger) made it much easier to figure out exactly what we needed in terms of IKEA's hanging rail system. You buy some cute rails like this:</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/50072645/" target="_blank"><img border="0" closure_lm_311950="null" height="320" isa="true" src="http://www.ikea.com/us/en/images/products/bygel-rail__35728_PE126619_S4.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<div style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none;">
Then you buy little things to hang from them to hold stuff. Like this:</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/90072648/" target="_blank"><img border="0" closure_lm_311950="null" height="320" isa="true" src="http://www.ikea.com/us/en/images/products/bygel-wire-basket__35729_PE126620_S4.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
Or these:<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/20219738/" target="_blank"><img border="0" closure_lm_311950="null" height="320" isa="true" src="http://www.ikea.com/us/en/images/products/bygel-container__0143884_PE303306_S4.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<div style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none;">
And, I've been needing a chair. This one is quite comfy. Granted, it doesn't have wheels, but since I question how level my trailer will actually remain, that might be a benefit.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://www.ikea.com/us/en/images/products/vilmar-chair__0125495_PE283075_S4.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" closure_lm_374023="null" height="320" isa="true" src="http://www.ikea.com/us/en/images/products/vilmar-chair__0125495_PE283075_S4.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none;">
Finally, the piece that I have wanted since the moment I laid eyes on it! This gorgeous rolling kitchen cart!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/30216536/" target="_blank"><img border="0" closure_lm_311950="null" height="320" isa="true" src="http://www.ikea.com/us/en/images/products/raskog-kitchen-cart__0144044_PE304208_S4.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<div style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none;">
It's just as beautiful as I imagined. I can't wait to fill it full of stuff!</div>
<div style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none;">
<br /></div>
<div style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none;">
Yes, there has been more progress made on the trailer, but I haven't taken photos in a while. I promise to do it soon!</div>

<a href="http://farm3.staticflickr.com/2871/10128450303_a672b168c0.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" closure_lm_361905="null" dsa="true" height="400" src="http://farm3.staticflickr.com/2871/10128450303_a672b168c0.jpg" width="266" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none; clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none; clear: both; text-align: center;">
Because I think all doors should be red, Roger painted the inside of my main door red to match the closets. He also did fixed the handle to make things easier to close and lock/unlock.</div>
<div class="separator" style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none; clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none; clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none; clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none; clear: both; text-align: center;">
The little "back door" is now red, too. And check out that super cute book shelf! I love the little beadboard detail at the base. (It's actually covering the ugly wheel well that sticks out of the closet.) It's all about the details, right? </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7329/10128306685_524a55c199.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" closure_lm_361905="null" dsa="true" height="400" src="http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7329/10128306685_524a55c199.jpg" width="266" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
And, here is the back end of the trailer all nicely trimmed and painted. The underneath storage still needs doors, the majority of the painting is now done. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I found this delightfully chippy ceramic cat at the Kansas Barn Sale this past weekend. She'll be taking up residence next to the fireplace when all is said and done. Just another detail!</div>

Roger says he feels like things are finally coming together on the trailer and that he feels like the end is in sight. I know he's out of his mind, because I can make a list a mile long of stuff that still needs to be done. But, it is starting to look like my dream space, so I can't complain!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
The reading nook is looking amazing! It's all walled-in, trimmed and ready to be painted. </div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
The opposite end of the trailer is nearly done. We decided to paint all of the trim white, rather than a color. It makes the space look bigger, and I'll add splashes of colors when I do the window coverings. At this point, I'm going to do valances, rather than full curtains, because I want to use those window ledges as display space.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Next, Roger wants to focus on building the work table that will fit under the front window. I'm asking for a plain wooden table top. Something smooth, clean and easy to clean up. Something I can add my own character to.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Not sure how much work is going to get done on the trailer for the next few weeks. We will be participating in three shows in October, so I am headed in to preparation mode for those. Lots of things to clean, tag and pack. Busy! Busy!</div>

I was blown away by all the awesome loot I got!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh1MpwQZhbTtVd8vD3GUHSpCbf1tDEUcnlWYI3gqtLXwZFFadnwo1McnNNYS60GCb_hZYrwQCKhTQTmD6WDMIONTXqNJjh8jGeMJSHwEvMF4inTJHmy38ebCAfdtRhLoWkuUvf47Z-7xx4/s1600/vintage+026.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="326" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh1MpwQZhbTtVd8vD3GUHSpCbf1tDEUcnlWYI3gqtLXwZFFadnwo1McnNNYS60GCb_hZYrwQCKhTQTmD6WDMIONTXqNJjh8jGeMJSHwEvMF4inTJHmy38ebCAfdtRhLoWkuUvf47Z-7xx4/s400/vintage+026.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Let's see if I can list it all! Cross stitched apron, potato chip bag, Bingo card, tea canister, pyrex fridgie, tennis playing santas, yellow melmac cream and sugar, knee hugger elf, thumbtacks made from vintage buttons, salt and pepper shakers, fans, notecards! That's a lot of stuff to fit in a flat rate priority mail box!</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Keep cool, and be gay! The handle on this fan is so bright and the Japanese images are fantastic.</div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
These two may be my favorite things from the entire package. A couple of cute little bell pepper headed salt and pepper shakers. Cute faces, and I really like bell peppers! Always have!</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
An Early American fridgie in perfect condition. I love that it has a cat on it. This will find a home in the craft trailer storing this and that.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
I don't yet know what I'm going to do with it, but I love this unused vintage potato chip bag. I'll have to figure out a way to use it in the trailer. The colors are just perfect!<br />
<br />
Go check out <a href="http://andromedavintage.blogspot.com/" target="_blank">Andromeda Vintage</a>! How handy is that? While I was getting ready, Roger ran down to scope it out. He came back and told me there really wasn't much there, except some chrome and laminate tables. Now, he can say that sort of thing, but I like to see for myself. I'm pretty good at finding stuff that he overlooks. And, vice versa. That's why we work together on this. The auction didn't last long - less than three hours. We came home with a number of great things!<br />

We also picked up a flat of baby toys. I probably would have passed them up at first glance, but Roger pointed them out, so I picked through them a bit more. It was the blue bear rattle that sold me.<br />

I was down at the flea market/antique mall this afternoon and found these three crisper drawers. The plan is to somehow incorporate these drawers into a storage cabinet. I'm excited to see what Roger comes up with. My favorite drawer is the one that says "Hydrator". It's hard to see in this picture, the other two have blue flowers on the handle of the one of the left and the one on the right says "crisper" on the drawer handle.BeckyKayhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12403738028988308558noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6575722553910411741.post-3536594884374688382013-08-12T15:01:00.001-05:002013-08-12T16:14:41.584-05:00It is FINISHED!<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
So, after sitting in our living room 95% finished for at least a year, the Gym Dandy Surrey restoration is complete! I finally figured out how and got up the nerve to sew that canopy! Cutting into a big piece of canvas like that is not to be taken lightly, you know! Roger is very happy to see it done. He did his part with the wood and metal, and he's been on me ever since to do my part with the fabric.<br />
<br />
I used this table cover <a href="http://www.craftinessisnotoptional.com/2012/07/fitted-oilcloth-tablecover-tutorial.html" target="_blank">tutorial</a> as a guideline for sewing the corners, and added a little dart where the top of the surrey peaks. This makes the sides of the canopy come down a little further than the original canopy would have, but I like the deeper look. I sewed bits of ribbon at each of the four corners and at the two peak darts so that the canopy can be tied into place. I didn't want a gust of Kansas wind to rip off the canopy and send it flying into the next county! Finally, I used my serger to finish the bottom edge of the canopy before sewing the tasseled fringe into place.<br />
<br />

And, then we entered it in the parade! The girls got third place in Saturday's kiddie parade. I wanted to see it in the parade at least once before we offer it up for sale. Our driver was a pro, but her legs were tired when she was done!<br />
<br />
We've had several people ask where we got parts and graphics for our Gym Dandy Surrey restoration. We recommend <a href="http://www.cowboysandkidillacs.com/index.html" target="_blank">Cowboys & Kidillacs</a>. <br />

A couple Saturdays ago, we woke up and decided to attend an auction. We had no intention of going to this auction when we went to bed on Friday, but we took a peek at some pictures, it was nearby and we figured, "What the heck?"</div>

I can't find any information on this set of vintage glasses. Each one has a card suit symbol on it, and they sit on a nice glass holder. The glasses each stand about 5 inches tall. A friend suggested they may be half pint glasses.</div>

<br />
There was a ton of enamelware at this auction. We picked up a few pieces in a fabulous aqua blue color, but this is my favorite piece and one that I am keeping for my crafting trailer. It has a red rim, and I believe is a collapsible spice rack. I think it will look adorable holding colorful bottles of craft supplies.<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://farm4.staticflickr.com/3814/9430343691_ffe294c88b.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" jsa="true" src="http://farm4.staticflickr.com/3814/9430343691_ffe294c88b.jpg" width="282" /></a></div>
<br />
This was the most exciting purchase of the day, at least in Roger's opinion. It's a vintage dental chair. He's been working on shining up the chrome so we can get it down to the antique mall as soon as possible. The hydraulics work, and it is in quite good condition. It's a perfect recliner for a man cave!<br />
<div class="separator" style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none; clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none; clear: both; text-align: left;">
There were a lot more purchases, but they got hustled into our storage unit, because the real plan for that weekend was to unclutter the house! There is nothing that will clutter your house faster than a good auction!</div>
<div class="separator" style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none; clear: both; text-align: left;">

A couple weeks before this auction, we took the kids and headed to Florence, KS for my aunt and uncle's estate auction. We came home with some great pieces from there, especially if one likes rusty stuff!</div>

Love the nice rusty dolly on the left. The big scoop on the right is called a tumble bug. It will make a very cool industrial look piece for someone!

This pretty scrolly frame is made of some kind of painted metal. Roger was teasing me about my collection of empty frames. Frankly, they look kind of cool. Why mess them up by adding photos?</div>

One of my other uncles had brought a few pieces of furniture that he had restored to sell at the auction. This cabinet was one of them. Originally it was all blonde. Now, I love mid-century modern, but I'm not a fan of blonde wood. This is so much better and fits our decor perfectly. It's a keeper! Notice I've claimed it by filling it with part of my Pyrex collection. And, I love being able to store stuff in the bottom cupboard!<br />

<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I'm starting to feel like this project will never be done, but Roger assures me he is making much progress. I'm just an impatient person. It's the reason I don't do large projects. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none; clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://farm4.staticflickr.com/3831/9433116468_81d16d5801_b.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" jsa="true" src="http://farm4.staticflickr.com/3831/9433116468_81d16d5801_b.jpg" width="266" /></a></div>
<div style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none;">
<br /></div>
He has begun to finish up the reading nook area. The inside walls are up.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none; clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://farm3.staticflickr.com/2852/9433117404_99afb1dbbf_b.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="266" jsa="true" src="http://farm3.staticflickr.com/2852/9433117404_99afb1dbbf_b.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
All of the light fixtures are installed, including this one that will hang over my table. The overhang is almost done, too.<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7348/9433116938_80f9ec4fb8_b.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" jsa="true" src="http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7348/9433116938_80f9ec4fb8_b.jpg" width="266" /></a></div>
<br />
And, finally, the electric fireplace is installed! I love how it looks. What I love even more is that it is no longer sitting in its ginormous box in my living room!!<br />
<div style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none;">
<br /></div>
<div style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none;">
Slowly, but surely, we are getting there. The heavy rains have not helped with our progress, but they have revealed a few leaks that need to be dealt with. Not something I was thrilled to see, but I trust that Roger can solve the problem.</div>

Roger says that if I don't blog, he's not going to do any more work on the trailer. I'd really like to see this project completed sometime this decade, so here's a little blog entry!</div>
<div style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7407/8723981777_76d025c44e_c.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="266" src="http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7407/8723981777_76d025c44e_c.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div align="left" class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Seems like most of the work lately has been of the "boring" variety. Stuff that has to be done, but just doesn't make me go, "oooh!" Roger has replaced all the skylights and polished the entire roof. Not an easy task since it involves perching on a slick, shiny, hot surface, often within reach of a couple of power lines.</div>
<div style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7362/8723983045_193110a6fa_c.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="266" src="http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7362/8723983045_193110a6fa_c.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<div style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
</div>
<div style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Here's an interior shot of the new skylights. I'm sure I'll be very thankful for these when it's pouring rain and all my craft supplies are inside the trailer. In case you're wondering, most of our parts come from <a href="http://www.vintagetrailersupply.com/" target="_blank">Vintage Trailer Supply.</a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://farm4.staticflickr.com/3751/9241818091_50cfbe8e49_c.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="266" src="http://farm4.staticflickr.com/3751/9241818091_50cfbe8e49_c.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div align="left" class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
The back end of the trailer has been completely polished. The tail lights have all been replaced, the logo painted red, and Roger spent some time flipping through antique license plates to find the perfect one for our trailer. It's red and has our initials. B for Becky and R for Roger. (That's Brown County, Kansas, in case you wondered.)</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7422/9244599278_1ec5edb263_c.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="266" src="http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7422/9244599278_1ec5edb263_c.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7337/9244601864_7378d8ba1c_c.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="266" src="http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7337/9244601864_7378d8ba1c_c.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div align="left" class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Now, <em>this </em>is the kind of work I like to see! The walls are completely beadboarded, and there are a lot more light fixtures!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://farm4.staticflickr.com/3809/9241819599_f2a113e9eb_c.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="266" src="http://farm4.staticflickr.com/3809/9241819599_f2a113e9eb_c.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div align="left" class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
At an auction a couple months ago, we found these drawer cupboards. There are three of them and we only paid $20 for them. It involves some re-working of our original plan, but the cost savings should make it worth it! As you can see, the air conditioner has also been installed. Thank goodness, because I don't want Roger to bake while he's working. It's hard to get a guy to work when he's exhibiting signs of heat stroke.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://farm6.staticflickr.com/5541/9128958230_8e3bb59a03_c.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="http://farm6.staticflickr.com/5541/9128958230_8e3bb59a03_c.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div align="left" class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
And, don't think I haven't been working on the trailer. I found this fabulous canister set at an antique mall in Shipshewana, Indiana while I was visiting my friend. It's made to hang on the wall and each bin pulls out. Perfect for storing craft supplies, right?</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://site.fabricworm.com/yswimages/memirustspmo1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://site.fabricworm.com/yswimages/memirustspmo1.jpg" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
I tracked down this Melody Miller Happy Dishes fabric at <a href="http://www.fabricworm.com/memirustspmo1.html?AdID=3720cm00cm0morehappydishesringaling&gclid=CIX6-cKVobgCFazm7AodNzkAiA" target="_blank">Fabricworm</a>. Too pricey to do all my curtains with it, but I'll come up with <em>something</em> to use it for. The pyrex looking dishes are just too perfect!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://retrorenovation.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/05/Charley-Harper_cardinal_patch.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://retrorenovation.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/05/Charley-Harper_cardinal_patch.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
And, these amazing fabrics that are due out in October from Birch Fabrics. You can see more of the amazing patterns at <a href="http://retrorenovation.com/2013/05/29/charley-harper-fabrics/" target="_blank">Retro Renovation</a>. Also probably too expensive for curtains, but we'll see! So, I've been busy with the trailer, too. My busy just involves less sweat.</div>
<br />

Last Saturday's auction was unlike any I've been to before. The sellers had owned some kind of store back in the 40s and 50s, so the auction was chock full of new old stock items, and lots of them. For example, an entire trailer of light bulbs and a trailer full of antennae. And three vintage refrigerators still in their crates. It's fun to find a vintage fan still in its original box. Like this GE beauty.</div>

My good friend Bobbi went to the auction with me, because Roger was gone all weekend. She was a trooper and carried most of my purchases to the car. And called her husband for his trailer when my purchases outgrew her SUV. She totally sucked air when these two children's folding chairs were pulled out of their original box! Very subtle, Bobbi...</div>

This is the real reason I was at the auction. Roger went out the night before the sale to scope out the bikes. He took pictures, and then sent Bobbi and I off with an illustrated, annotated list of what to bid on. It was our task to locate and identify the 16 bikes he was interested in. Can you say "needle in a haystack"? We managed to find 15 of the 16. I suspect the one we couldn't find was pulled from the auction, because it just plain wasn't there.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I was the only girl out there bidding against the bike guys. I think I surprised them at the beginning. "I have a list!" I informed them. One of them actually asked if I was buying them for yard art! I came home with these 12 bikes. Four of them were not on the list, but still managed to meet with Roger's approval. </div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Funny story about being a girl buying "boy stuff". I bought a box of vehicle lights for $10. It wasn't something Roger had mentioned, but I know decent lights when I see them even if I can't tell you what they're for! I think I stole that box out from under the noses of all the men there! At the end of the sale, a man came up to me and asked to buy one of the lights out of my box. He showed me which one he was interested in, and I told him I didn't think I wanted to sell that one. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
"It's not a bike light!" he said. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
"I know, but I like the way it's shaped," I replied. I'm sure I couldn't have said anything that would irritate him more.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
"Fine!" and he stalked off.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
A little while later he was back. "Would $40 buy that light?"</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Now, I'm no math whiz, but I know $40 was four times what I paid for that entire box of lights, so I sold it to him. I bet it was worth more than $40, but we both ended up satisfied with the deal.</div>

<a href="http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8255/8671528363_4ddb62f89f.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" dua="true" height="333" src="http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8255/8671528363_4ddb62f89f.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
It was not my original intention to attend any auctions this past weekend. However, when my Aunt Fern sent me the sale bill for an auction in Burns, I had to at least take a look. Well, the photos were too tempting, and I spent a bit of my childhood in this part of the state, so I couldn't resist driving out there. I'm glad I did. I didn't buy a lot. There were dealers there with deeper pockets than I. But, I got to see some of my favorite countryside and visit with an old friend.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I purchased a handful of these little advertising cards at the auction. Each one is two-sided and about the size of a playing card. They're amusing, especially if you have ever been to Burns. It's a tiny place! The school that I attended in the early 80s is no longer there. The bank that was there literally fell down. Parts of the movie "Mars Attacks!" were filmed there. But back in the old days it had a newspaper, a "fine City Hall", three churches, a "good catholic school", and was free from cyclones and crop failures! Not to mention that nearly all the farmers had telephones! Quite the progressive place!</div>

<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none; clear: both; text-align: left;">
I also bought this birdcage and stand. It's filthy! But absolutely fabulous! It needs a very serious hose down. I'm hoping I can get it into shape for the Red Barn Outdoor Market this coming Saturday. I also picked up a box of Christmas decorations, some wooden spinning tops, a pink aluminum canister and breadbox set, some silhouette pictures, tv trays, a toy ironing board and another vintage samsonite suitcase.</div>

Sunday afternoon, we went back to work on the trailer. Painting is one of my favorite parts, because the results are so dramatic. Roger won't let me paint. He's way too particular, and frankly, I don't have the steady hand that he does. I am, however, allowed to prime.</div>

I am pretty proud of myself for picking out truly red paint. That is real red. Fire engine red! Cherry red! "Whore's lipstick" red. Thanks, Roger. That primer work on the inside is all me! The inside of the closets will be the same aqua blue as the ceiling. And, we will be putting doors back on them.</div>

Just a reminder of what the closet looked like "before". Black is not an easy color of paint to cover up. But, I bet red won't be easy either!</div>

The flooring is in! This was taken on the weekend. Roger finished the entire floor last night. I'm so excited that the trailer is actually starting to look like a real liveable space. While Roger was finishing the floor, I primed the inside of the closets. Painting is hard work. My arm and shoulder and killing me today! (I feel like a bit of a loser.)</div>

I added some pops of color to the decoupaged wall. I think it makes it a little more interesting. I used some vintage children's book and magazine pages, some vintage pattern envelopes and a few colored encyclopedia pages.</div>

Roger has been replacing bits and pieces on the outside of the trailer. Before he puts the new piece on, he polishes the surrounding area, so he doesn't have to remove them again later. So, we're getting glimpses of what the trailer will look like when it's completely polished. The future looks BRIGHT (and shiny).BeckyKayhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12403738028988308558noreply@blogger.com1
